Royal Caribbean Beverage Packages

This is one of those things that most think they will not need then regret not getting it after the trip is over and you get your bill.

I am going to break it all down for you today and explain why I made the choice I did for my sailing.

All pricing is as of October 2019 and is subject to change.  All prices are also in USD.

To start, you are offered the following as a part of your cruise;

  • Lemonade
  • Tap water
  • Boxed juices at breakfast

Royal Caribbean offers a 4 tier package system.

Basic Tier – 12 or 24 pack of Evian Water delivered to your stateroom at the start of the cruise

Tier 1 – Classic Soda Package $12.99-$15.00 per day

This is  gives you unlimited access to all the Coca-Cola® Freestyle machines.  You must use the souvenir cup that will be provided in your room. They have an RFID chip inside the bottom that activates the machine.

Tier 2 – Refreshments Package – $29.00-$38.00 per day

Includes all of the Tier 1 plus Non-alcoholic cocktails (mocktails), bottled still and sparking water, Premium coffees and teas as well as fresh-squeezed juices.

Tier 3 – Deluxe Beverage Package – $63.00-$89.00 per day

This includes everything in tiers 1 & 2 plus alcoholic drinks. You are restricted on Wine by the Glass (Can’t just have the whole bottle. But yet can drink a glass at a time till you basically drank it anyway). As for wine by the bottle you do receive a 40% discount on bottled wines priced up to $100, and 20% discount on wine prices above $100.

The big restriction on this one is ANYONE over the age of 21 in the same stateroom must also purchase it if one other person has. This prevents you from drink sharing.

My opinions of each package

Tier 1 – Perfect for anyone aged 11 and up. Depending on how much soda you allow your children to drink then you can lower that age. My main thing with this package is a bottle of coke will cost $4.00 so after 3 a day it is paying for itself.

Tier 2 – Perfect for any non drinkers or anyone really ages 15 and up. Allows for milkshakes at johnny rockets or smoothies at the fitness centre.

Tier 3 – Anyone who wants to simply pay up front and not worry about the bill at the end. I will explain further below as to why I chose this package.

Cost Breakdown

If you go onto the cruise planner you will find the best deals for the beverage package. We booked ours for buy one get the second one half off. At the time Royal offered it to us at $65.00 per day in Canadian Dollars.

Cost breakdown – Per person

  • $65.00 per day = $455.00
  • Plus 18% gratuity = $81.90 or Total $536.90
  • Plus taxes = $562.67 each

I had used a $100USD credit I earned from the My Vegas app and applied it towards the beverage package.

Total Cost came to $992.78 for both of us.

To put this all into perspective for the trip.

The average cocktail drink as approx $13.00, Beer was around $7.00.

If we breakdown the final cost of the package it was $496.39 CDN each.

Or per day was $70.91 again in CDN.

With each drink being say $13.00 with 18% gratuity and 33% currency conversion plus the 3% from the credit card conversion fee. Came to $21.04 PER DRINK!

So after 3 drinks its $63.12 per day. Once you have your 4th you pay getting your monies worth.

To me it was a no brainier to get the package. I can easily and did drink those 3 drinks at the pool, plus one at dinner and a few more each night during the entertainment.

As with all these packages if you are stopping in Labadee Haiti or Perfect Day at Cococay then the package will work off the ship on these islands as well.

Now if you are more of a only drink one a day then I would recommend the Refreshments Package and just pay by the drink. As with the food, I used this package to my advantage and tried every type of drink I could get my hands on. This allowed me to be able to have some fun at the Bionic Bar. If I didn’t like it, no big deal get a new one.

So I hope this helps you make your own choice into what beverage package if any to get.

My next post will be all about the ports of call we stopped at on our cruise and what we experienced.
